Role Title: Project Intern
Organisation: People With Disabilities WA (PWDWA)
Internship Period: Semester 1 (February - May)
Location: West Perth
The aim of the project is to connect young people with disability to potential employment opportunities in targeted sectors within regions. The project will aim to build capacity and confidence of small to medium-sized businesses to be more welcoming, confident and accessible to people with disability, and to link these businesses to young people with disability seeking employment in that sector. Young people with disability involved in the project will better understand how to pursue employment/a career in their chosen sector; they will understand the range of tools and supports available to them to undertake employment; and they will have developed soft skills, confidence and links to their chosen employment sector.
The young person will receive training from the intern to undertake a business analysis that include disability friendly checks, training on disability awareness and unconscious bias, and the creation of a customised recommendation document. The intern will mentor the young person to undertake these activities with a business in a youth driven sector in which the young person is seeking employment.
PWdWA provides non-legal advocacy to people with disabilities. Advocacy is the process of standing alongside individuals to ensure that people are able to speak out, to express their views and uphold their rights.
