Role Description

You will be hosted by the Freight, Ports, Aviation and Reform directorate within the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure (DTMI). Our primary function is strategic policy development for the State in the Freight, Ports, Aviation and Transport Reform spaces. For this internship, you will be hosted by the Transport Reform team. One of your first tasks will be to coordinate, collate and prepare briefing materials for the Minister for Transport, the Minister Assisting the Minister for Transport, the Ministers’ Principal Policy Advisor, and the Director General of Transport for the - Infrastructure and Transport Ministers Meeting and Infrastructure and Transport Senior Officials’ Committee Meeting on 11 August. We believe this process will give you insight into how national ministerial committees operate and identify high priority transport and infrastructure policy discussions that have national significance. Your other duties are undertaking research to (1) update annual guideline rates for the Owner Driver Cost Calculator which is used by owner-drivers who supply their own vehicles to run their business transporting goods in heavy vehicles, (2) support a reform proposal for the Owner-Drivers (Contracts and Disputes) Act 2007 and an accompanying presentation and media campaign to educate owner-drivers on the reforms and the impacts, and (3) inform the development of an enduring framework for drones and other emerging aviation technologies in Australia.
