Curry Collection - Entomology Intern

Role Title: Curry Collection - Entomology Intern

Organisation: WA Museum

Internship Period: Semester 1 (February - May)

Location: Welshpool

Role Description

The Western Australian Museum is looking for keen biologists to help us sort, identify and register thousands of zoological specimens collected from Western Australia over the last 100 years. New specimen records will be directly contributing to the WA Museum Legacy Project and the Perth-Peel Biodiversity Survey (for DBCA).
The Steve Curry Collection of approximately 6,000 insect specimens spans the southwest Jarrah, Karri, and Tuart forests. These represent endemic and invasive insect records that are invaluable for environmental impact assessments and invasive species monitoring. The project will involve rehousing specimens in museum standard glassware and transforming the old Curry database entries into WA Museum format that will then be uploaded to the Atlas of Living Australia and Dandjoo. The intern will be expected to fill in a templated spreadsheet of specimens using Microsoft Excel. Training in entomological preservation techniques will be provided.
