Clear the Air Youth Engagement Intern

Role Title: Clear the Air Youth Engagement Intern

Organisation: Cancer Council WA

Internship Period: Semester 1 (February - May)

Location: Subiaco

Role Description

The Clear the Air Youth Engagement Intern will work closely with the Clear the Air program team to support the establishment of a youth-led peer project. Clear the Air aims to protect the next generation from vaping, smoking, and new and emerging nicotine products, and provide support to many young West Australians who are addicted to nicotine.
Research conducted by Cancer Council WA for the Clear the Air program found that young people want to learn about quitting vaping from other young people. It is important that young people know that programs and services have been developed by young people for young people. Clear the Air will be working with young people and stakeholders in the WA youth sector to establish a youth-led peer project focused on using youth education as a health promotion strategy to engage with young people. This Intern role will undertake a scoping project that will include researching existing health promotion youth-led peer projects across WA, Australia and internationally. The Intern will also need to engage with young people and the WA youth sector to seek input on what strategies young people want included in a youth-led peer project focused on vaping and nicotine use. The Intern will use findings from the scoping project to develop a project proposal to guide the establishment of a Clear the Air youth-led peer project. The Intern will sit within the Make Smoking History team, Cancer Prevention and Research Division at Cancer Council WA.
