Role Title: Non Profit Advocacy in WA
Organisation: Centre for Stories
Internship Period: Semester 2 (July – October)
Location: Northbridge
We are looking for a research intern to look into non-profit advocacy in Western Australia. In particular, we seek a series of case studies on successful campaigns that have resulted in legislative changes. These may come from any field of non-profit advocacy - public health (seatbelts for example), technology (social media bans), and incarceration (end of death penalty). We want to know what makes for a successful advocacy campaign that has been led by the non-profit sector to make meaningful, lasting, cultural and material change in Western Australia. This will then result in a number of recommendations and methodologies for how we might raise the age of criminal consent; push for a human rights bill; participate in constitutional change; and other possibilities for progress here. It will focus on the necessary elements that result in successful advocacy for civil society.
Founded in 2015 by John and Caroline Wood, the Centre for Stories is an inclusive literary and cultural organisation that uses storytelling to inspire, empower, and connect. Focused on cultural diversity, we support underrepresented storytellers and writers in Western Australia, fostering skills, confidence, and social change through shared stories.
