Role Title: Review Intern: Local Government Public Health Plans
Organisation: WA Local Government Association (WALGA)
Internship Period: Semester 2 (July – October)
Location: West Leederville
The intern will be required to undertake a review of Local Government public health plans, outlining the findings of desktop research and interviews with Local Government Officers.
Desktop research and analysis will assess:
• alignment of Local Government public health plans with State objectives and priorities
• innovative approaches to emerging issues, such as the health impacts of climate change
• significant new commitments to projects or programs, because of the public health planning process
• trends in metropolitan, rural and remote public health priorities and actions
• evidence of whole-of-organisation planning, implementation and accountability
• approaches to evaluation and reporting
The intern will also design and undertake targeted interviews with a selection of Local Governments, representative of sector diversity, to collect feedback on their experience of developing their first public health plan. The focus will be on both challenges and opportunities in relation to:
• resource and funding implications
• access to and quality of support from health service providers
• use of consultants and subject-matter experts
• community engagement methods and outcomes
• data access, interpretation and utilisation
• integration with other strategic planning processes, and
• organisational and Council support and participation.
The report will include recommendations for WALGA’s future advocacy to the State Government and partnership development with NGO
The WA Local Government Association (WALGA) is working for Local Government in Western Australia. As the peak industry body, WALGA advocates on behalf of WA's 139 Local Governments and negotiates service agreements for the sector. WALGA is not a government department or agency.
