Role Title: Policy Research Intern 1
Organisation: UWA Centre for Public Value
Internship Period: Semester 2 (July – October)
Location: UWA Crawley Campus
The role will comprise undertaking supervised policy research with the UWA Public Policy Institute to develop accessible analysis on a particular policy issue. Interns will be required to contribute to policy-relevant short-form outputs, such as policy notes and briefs. The topic/s covered will be agreed upon by the supervisor and intern, with priority given to policy topics that both align with intern interests and are considered 'live' and impactful policy topics in Australia, such as the NDIS, housing affordability, and healthcare systems.
Emphasis is placed on producing analysis that is accessible and relevant to policymakers and wider policy communities, therefore, the role will see interns develop an understanding of political and policy context and dynamics, as well as effective policy analysis framing and presentation. An applicant should be comfortable working independently and seeking guidance and support as needed, in addition to regular structured supervision.
This role is well-suited for students seeking to enter the public, advocacy or consultancy sectors, as it provides hands-on experience in the policy research and analysis activities undertaken within these sectors. Further, any outputs developed will have the intern's contribution clearly reflected and can be used as a demonstrated capability when pursuing future opportunities.
Our mission is to conduct research and develop implementable industry ready policy and practice prescriptions that build the sustainability of Australasia's human services delivery in the interests of services users.
