Project Intern: Evaluation of New Beginnings postnatal group program pilot data and lived experience survey data

Role Title: Project Intern: Evaluation of New Beginnings postnatal group program pilot data and lived experience survey data

Organisation: North Metropolitan Health Service

Internship Period: Semester 2 (July – October)

Location: Nedlands

Role Description

This project is designed to inform a quality improvement and service innovation project currently underway within the Mental Health Service at the Women and Newborn Mental Health Service at King Edward Memorial Hospital. This project aims to improve and evaluate the New Beginnings Group Programme, a group therapy program aimed at supporting women who may be experiencing anxiety, depression, or adjustment difficulties in the postnatal period.
The Project Intern will be involved in the development of the New Beginnings group through 1: contributing to screening and manuscript writing for a systematic review that is already underway, which will provide familiarity with the literature in the space of perinatal group interventions; and 2: analysis of quantitative, qualitative and demographic data collected from a state-wide survey, as well as preparing a brief report summarising the results of this analysis. Data sources: (1) Systematic review of group interventions for postnatal anxiety, depression, and adjustment. (2) Data generated from a statewide online survey designed to capture the needs of postnatal women to support their mental health. It is intended that the findings will contribute to the redesign and ongoing development of the postnatal group program to ensure that it is currently relevant and endorsed by consumers, with a view to disseminating the group program manual to mental health services across Western Australia.
