Role Description

As an intern at the Youth Involvement Council (YIC), you will support our trauma-informed team working with young people aged 5–25. Your placement focuses on learning, observing, and assisting across key programs.
What You Will Be Doing • Assisting Youth Mentors in after-school programs, mainly Deadly Hearts (5–11) and Mungka Maya (12–17), helping run activities and creating a safe, positive environment. • Supporting Mingle Mob outreach by observing engagement, safe transport and community connection. • Shadowing Family Support Workers as they help young people with appointments, wellbeing check-ins and practical tasks. • Helping with excursions, cultural activities and community events. • Learning how trauma-informed practice and The YIC Way guide daily interactions. • Assisting with basic admin such as attendance, activity notes or program setup. Who You Will Work With • Primary teams: Youth Programs and Family Support. • Programs: Deadly Hearts, Mungka Maya, Mingle Mob and Family Support. • Community: Young people, families, Elders visiting YIC, and partner agencies.
