Starlight Craft Pack Project Intern

Role Title: Starlight Craft Pack Project Intern

Organisation: Starlight Children's Foundation

Internship Period: Summer (November - December)

Location: Nedlands

Role Description

Our Starlight Express Rooms (SERs) are vibrant, medical-free spaces designed to bring moments of joy, creativity, and connection to children in hospital. As a Starlight Intern, you will support Captain Starlight, contributing to enhancing the experience, efficiency, and inclusivity of the SER.
Every day is different, but regular tasks include engaging visitors in a variety of different activities: arts and crafts; board games and video games; song and dance; laughter and play. You will also be restocking supplies; cleaning and tidying the space; helping plan activities. The Captains take Craft Packs out with them on wards, clinics, and visits to provide entertainment to kids in hospital. These packs must be easy to complete and not require any additional materials outside of the paper bag. It must not include any sharp or potentially dangerous materials. Your project is to help create 3-4 exciting new craft packs for the kids. In your first week you will research previous and current craft packs that we make, discuss with Captains what is most popular, what doesn’t work, and what does. After your research week, you can aim to make one craft pack per week. We invite you to research how positive distraction benefits children, to help in your understanding of this project. You can also research what other similar organisations have done, for more inspiration. At the end, you will discuss with the Captains which craft packs worked best and why.
