Role Description

The Legal Policy Intern for Financial Governance and Legislative Compliance supports Legal Aid WA's Chief Finance Officer by conducting research and interpreting the key requirements of the Financial Management Act 2006 (WA), Financial Management Regulations 2024 (WA), the new Treasurer's Instructions issued in July 2025, and the Treasurer's Guidance Handbook issued in July 2025.
The role applies the outcomes of this legislative research to Legal Aid WA's financial governance framework, reviews and updates the retained powers of the Commission and the powers delegated to the Director of Legal Aid to ensure legislative compliance, and amends the associated financial policies, procedures, and practice manuals accordingly. compliance and policy functions by assisting in monitoring financial legislation, analysing regulatory requirements, and helping ensure internal policies align with applicable laws and standards. This role provides hands-on exposure to financial regulation, policy development, and governance frameworks. This role will be jointly supervised by the Chief Finance Officer and the Director of Strategy and Governance who is a qualified lawyer.
