Role Title: Role 2/2 - Complex Experiences of Gender Affirmation - Guidelines and abstract review
Organisation: The Kids Research Institute Australia
Internship Period: Winter (June - July)
Location: Nedlands
The Complex Experiences of Gender-Affirmation project at The Kids Research Institute Australia, aims to explore the mental health and support needs of people who identify as trans and subsequently experience shifts in their gender identity or gender-affirming care needs.
The aim of this study is to explore how the members and the leadership of professional trans health organisations -- such as the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), the Australian Professional Association for Trans Health (AusPATH), and the Professional Association for Transgender Health Aotearoa (PATHA) -- approach complex experiences of affirmation.
To look at this we will conduct qualitative analysis of official professional outputs (e.g., guidelines and standards of care) and member-generated documents (conference abstracts) to understand how organisation leaders and members approach complex experiences of gender-affirmation.
The intern will help us to identify relevant guidelines and conferences, to obtain copies of materials, to extract relevant data, generate key code words, and to conduct introductory qualitative analysis (e.g., content analysis).
This project takes a gender-affirming approach to this research area. This means that we understand all gender identity, gender expression, and treatment wishes are equally acceptable.
This project involves topics such as dissatisfaction and regret.
