Research Intern - Adolescent Vaping and Smoking Prevention and Cessation

Role Title: Research Intern - Adolescent Vaping and Smoking Prevention and Cessation

Organisation: Cancer Council WA

Internship Period: Summer (November - December)

Location: Perth, Western Australia

Role Description

The Research Intern will undertake an evidence-based literature review examining approaches to preventing and reducing vaping and smoking among adolescents, with particular attention to effective strategies that support young people to quit.
Working under the guidance of the project supervisor, the intern will identify, review and synthesise relevant peer-reviewed research, systematic reviews, government reports and public health evidence. The review will consider adolescent vaping and tobacco use, risk and protective factors, prevention initiatives, cessation interventions, behaviour-change approaches and evidence of intervention effectiveness. The intern will translate research findings into a clear, structured literature review and evidence summary that identifies promising approaches, evidence gaps and implications for future program development. The final work will contribute to the evidence base and background research for a proposed 2027 grant application addressing adolescent vaping, smoking prevention and cessation.
