Falls Prevention Service Intern

Role Title: Falls Prevention Service Intern

Organisation: South Metropolitan Health Service

Internship Period: Semester 2 (July – October)

Location: Fremantle and Fiona Stanley Hospital

Role Description

The proposed project involves trained volunteers providing one-to-one falls prevention education to patients identified by Nursing and Allied Health staff as being at increased risk of falls. Volunteers would facilitate the viewing of a falls prevention education video developed by The University of Western Australia and reinforce key safety messages to improve patients' understanding of their falls risk and strategies to stay safe during their hospital admission.
We are seeking assistance from a student to help develop the program framework, support data collection and evaluation processes, engage with key stakeholders, and identify opportunities to improve patient education and outcomes. The project will contribute to patient safety initiatives by promoting patient engagement in falls prevention and supporting the delivery of evidence-based education within the hospital setting.
