Role Title: Perth-Peel Biodiversity Collections Intern - Sandgropers
Organisation: WA Museum
Internship Period: Semester 1 (February - May)
Location: Welshpool
The Western Australian Museum is looking for keen biologists to help us sort, identify and register thousands of zoological specimens collected from Western Australia over the last 100 years. New specimen records will be directly contributing to the WA Museum Legacy Project and the Perth-Peel Biodiversity Survey (for DBCA).
The project will involve sorting specimens into taxonomic groups, which then need to be labelled, registered, and re-jarred for the alcohol-preserved entomology collection. The intern will be expected to fill in a templated spreadsheet of specimens using Microsoft Excel. Training in entomological preservation techniques will be provided, specific to the taxonomic group of focus for the intern.
The Western Australian Museum is the State’s premier cultural organisation, housing WA’s scientific and cultural collection. For over 120 years the Museum has been making the State's natural and social heritage accessible and engaging through research, exhibitions and public programs.
